Ross County v Celtic

Two weeks after their record breaking win over St Johnstone, Brendan Rodgers’ squad have the chance to stretch their run to 64 domestic matches unbeaten.

Owen Coyle has dug out a few results for Ross County since replacing Jim McIntyre but the former Bolton boss won’t be expecting much from Saturday’s lunchtime kick off.

It’s common place to describe any run of fixtures as ‘a big week coming up’ for Celtic but by next Sunday the hoops will have visited Paris as well as played in the first cup final of the season.

Rodgers played the same side in Celtic’s last two matches but is likely to be back into rotation mood especially with a near full strength squad to pick from.

The availability of Erik Sviatchenko and Jozo Simunovic is bound to create interest but it seems that the hoops boss is fairly content with the partnership brewing between Nir Bitton and Dedryck Boyata.

With the French contingent of Moussa Dembele and Olivier Ntcham back in scoring form there are no shortage of options for the trip to Dingwall.

CRAIG GORDON

The contrast from Dingwall to Paris couldn’t be starker on or off the park but the hoops keeper will be fully prepared for both matches.

Playing simply as a goalkeeper he is in good form but when he puts on his sweeper-keeper hat things change.

Under Brendan Rodgers the requirement is always to pass the ball but when there isn’t an available defender the ball has to be knocked into the centre of the park.

MIKAEL LUSTIG

Demonstrated against Italy that he can carry out the disciplined side of the game as well as rampaging forward to play his part in outrageous goal scoring.

He’s not short of motivation but with the finals at Russia to aim for there is bound to be an extra spring in his step.

The wild celebrations of Milan will be a distant memory by kick off time at Dingwall but Brendan Rodgers can count on a another polished performance from his first choice right-back.

DEDRYCK BOYATA

Has been back to fitness and in action for two months but still leaves supporters divided.

Virgil van Dijk set a near impossible benchmark for Celtic defenders to hit but Boyata still largely judged by his first season under Ronny Deila.

He has the total support of Brendan Rodgers and the backroom staff and will be looking to take a clean sheet to the more daunting surroundings in Paris in midweek.

NIR BITTON

Earned a name check from Brendan Rodgers during Wednesday’s AGM and is now considered mainly as a defender.

His passing out of defence is clearly a great asset with every minute on the park adding to his defensive experience.

Central defence is as much about partnerships as any other area of the park with the Bitton/Boyata blend starting to develop.

KIERAN TIERNEY

Won’t bat an eyelid over his 100th appearance, sending his pals behind the goal home and happy with three points is all that matters.

After playing at centre-half for Scotland he’ll be in his usual position of left-back and looking to put in the sort of performance he turned in at Pittodrie.

One game at a time is his mantra, taking full points from this match will blank out any thoughts about Paris Saint Germain or a cup final against Motherwell.

SCOTT BROWN

Sat out the Scotland v Holland match which will be welcomed by most Celtic supporters.

The skipper remains utterly essential to the way that Celtic play with no one more aware of that than his manager.

Celtic’s last visit to Dingwall proved more eventful than we would have wished for but Don Robertson and Liam Boyce will be missing on Saturday.

OLIVIER NTCHAM

Made a scoring appearance as a substitute away to St Johnstone and appeared to continue to impress in two appearances for the French u-21 side.

His introduction to Celtic has been a mix of highs and lows but that’s to be expected in an expensive import.

Bayern Munich away wasn’t his finest 90 minutes but he’ll be keen to get back in the saddle and earn a place for Wednesday against PSG.

JAMES FORREST

Is on a rich run of form and has barely had an off day all season.

His pace will torment every team in Scotland, with his guile and know how on form he is untouchable.

The return from injury of Patrick Roberts won’t faze him, he knows that he is judged game by game and needs to reach towards the form he showed at home to Bayern Munich.

CALLUM MCGREGOR

Has again forced his way into the team despite strong competition- and taken his chance.

Everything that he has achieved at Celtic has been through hard graft and effort but is now being fully recognised by the support.

He is equally at home in either midfield role, at Dingwall he’ll expect to be among the goals.

SCOTT SINCLAIR

Apparently he has still to hit form but is already on double figures!

As the common link between Kieran Tierney and Moussa Dembele his form is vital for every area of the team.

After missing out on international duty he’ll be fit and raring to go which will be bad news for the Ross County defenders.

MOUSSA DEMBELE

Last season’s top scorer is starting to click through the gears.

Doubles against Hibs and Aberdeen laid down a marker with a 12 minute hat-trick for the French u-21 side the best news to come out of the international break.

Maintaining that sort of form will be very welcome, it’s been a bit of a wait to start the season but the remainder of this year promises rich pickings.
