Celtic could fund the deal to sign Marvin Commper by selling Erik Sviatchenko.

According to a report in The Sun the Dane is set to leave Celtic when the transfer window opens next month.

Despite recovering from injury in November Sviatchenko hasn’t managed any game time as Brendan Rodgers tries out various defensive perumatations.

Celtic signed Sviatchenko from Midtylland in January 2016 but after impressing under Ronny Deila and Rodgers he has drifted out of the picture during 2017.

Besiktas and FC Copenhagen were linked with moves for the defender during the summer but due to injury no business was completed.

Celtic are hoping to strike a deal with RB Leipzig for Commper before the transfer window opens allowing the 32-year-old to join his new team-mates in Dubai for a week of training.

Rodgers is expected to bring in one other defender during the January window as he prepares for the Europa League tie with Zenit St Petersburg and potential Champions League qualifiers in the summer.
