If truth be told the home match with Motherwell was one that many fans were a bit concerned about.

Home draws in the Premiership against St Johnstone, Hibs and Kilmarnock have taken a little bit of a shine off the season although every fan would happily trade those results for the 3-0 win away to Anderlecht in September.

With the Belgian champions in town on Tuesday looking for revenge and six changes to the side there were grounds for concern but from early on there was only going to be one winner.

Scott Sinclair played a huge part in the opening goal but it was the execution of Odsonne Edouard that caught the eye.

The French teenager has had a tough gig this season but showed an awareness way beyond his years to strike a hat-trick.

There was a little concern when Motherwell pulled a goal back but the response was what you would expect from a team that has gone 66 domestic matches unbeaten.

James Forrest came off the bench to score twice with the composure of someone that has picked up 12 domestic medals by the age of 26.

Brendan Rodgers will already know his side to face Anderlecht but he can go into the match knowing that he has plenty in reserve to face Hibs at Easter Road as the hectic December schedule kicks in.

OSONNE EDOUARD

It is probably the toughest position at the club but the young Frenchman demonstrated that there is value in having a third striker.

Since scoring on his debut at Hamilton Accies opportunities have been very limited for Edouard but yesterday he made no mistake with three quality strikes.

The first was about opportunism as he anticipated Scott Sinclair’s pass, the second was about confidence as he shot low and hard from 20 yards out while the third was predatory as he cashed in on a defensive mistake.

Rodgers can turn to Edouard with confidence over the coming weeks, if he needs a new striker in the summer then the PSG kid may just fit the bill.

KRISTOFFER AJER

Is growing rapidly into a top class central defender.

Motherwell’s celebrated physical approach got little joy from the young Norwegian who also broke forward with confidence and purpose.

Apart from the second half slump in Astana Ajer has barely put a foot wrong in a Celtic jersey and will be giving cause for thought with the January transfer window looming.

Ronny Deila’s final signing could leave Brendan Rodgers looking for one central defender rather than two when the transfer window opens.

JONNY HAYES

It’s not been too much fun for the summer signing who has gone from the top man at Aberdeen to having a bit part role at Celtic.

Fortunately he has the full backing of Brendan Rodgers whose followed his career since he was a kid in Dublin.

Hayes looked much more effective yesterday but still appears overawed to be playing alongside the big names in front of 60,000 fans.

Some fans may have written him off but as a back up winger for either flank he’ll be growing in experience game by game.
