Lars Lagerback is ready to hand Kris Ajer his full international debut at the age of 19.

Norway have friendlies in March against Australia and Albania with the Celtic defender in line for a call up.

Lagerback has faced Celtic in Champions League qualifiers with Helsingborg and Malmo and knows the demands of holding down a first team place.

Ajer has been praised for helping Celtic to four clean sheets since replacing Jozo Simunovic with that form attracting attention in his homeland.

Kristoffer is a very promising player,” the Norwegian boss told Aftenposten. “Being as advanced as he is at the age of 19 is very unusual.

I watched him in two recent games for Celtic and if he performs like he did in those matches, he will definitely be in my squad. It doesn’t matter to me that he is only 19. Absolutely not. Age does not matter.

As long as he performs well, I don’t care what year he was born. I’ve never had such young players before in my time as international manager.

I believe that both Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Freddie Ljungberg were 21 years before they got the chance with Sweden.”

Ajer earned a call up to the Norwegian u-21 side at the end of last season after impressing on loan at Kilmarnock.

That progress has continued this season with the emergence of the 19-year-old appearing to solve a problem position for Brendan Rodgers.

Before joining Celtic Ajer made over 50 appearances in Norway for Start and captained the side as a 17-year-old.
