Barcelona have won the Florida Cup- the Ecuadorian tribute act of the famous Catalan club.

A 3-2 win over Legia Warsaw and a 3-1 success over Flumisese was enough to take the trophy to Ecuador where they won’t give a damn for the pointless training exercise.

Over the weekend there was a lot of excitement generated by Sevco fans that they might lift the trophy after a 4-2 win over Corinthians gave Graeme Murty’s warriors their second win of the competition.

With eight teams playing two matches installing a competitive edge is no easy task with most of the South American sides sending their youth or u-20 squad to take part.

In their six year history Sevco have won three lower division Scottish titles, the 2016 Petrofac Trophy and the 2013 Blackthorn Trophy which was arranged with Bristol City shortly after they freed Richard Foster who went on to join the Ibrox club who were under a transfer ban at the time.

After the storm caused by their fans singing anti-Catholic songs it’s unlikely that Sevco will be invited back for next year’s tournament.

No prize money is on offer at the competition with the organisers providing training facilities in return for the clubs agreeing to play two matches.
