BBC Scotland in denial

BBC Scotland just refuses to admit that their favoured football club were condemned to liquidation in 2012.

Rather than report the facts the state broadcaster continues to use financial gymnastics that wouldn’t be tolerated anywhere.

On their news pages the Carillion liquidation is discussed in depth, a company with 450 government contracts and the likely effects.

Up in Scotland the liquidation that Rangers Football Club entered in 2012 remains a topic too painful for proper discussion.

Covering the £9m claim from David Whitehouse of Duff and Phelps against the Chief Constable of Scotland BBC Scotland opted for a form of words that makes no sense.

According to the Glasgow branch of the state broadcaster ‘The club entered liquidation and was subsequently sold to a consortium led by Charles Green’.

Can’t a similar process be carried out on Carillion?

As BBC Scotland knows fine well there is no way out of liquidation. A basket of Carillion assets could be sold on, perhaps saving some jobs, but it won’t be Carillion. Just as the club playing out of Ibrox isn’t Rangers, that club is close to completing it’s liquidation with some creditors recently picking up four pence for every pound that they were owed.

Had Charles Green been able to provide a CVA in 2012 the club would have been saved in the same way as Hearts, Motherwell, Dundee and Livingston achieved.

Unfortunately Green’s CVA was rejected by Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs, at the time the BBC and other correctly reported on the death knell for the ailing football club.

With Rangers FC still going through the liquidation process, however much the BBC try to dress things up the club playing out of Ibrox isn’t the same one.

Dave King and friends are simply managing the basket of assets purchased by Mr Green with the new club starting life in the bottom tier of the professional game and starting the League Cup, Scottish Cup and Challenge Cup at the earliest possible stage.
