Benevento have dropped their interest in Bruno Alves.

The Sevco flop was wanted by the Italian side but after finding out the terms of his Ibrox deal Benevento have switched their interest to Bacary Sagna.

Shifting Alves out the door would have made a significant dent in the Sevco wage bill but with the former Cagliai man staying on the Ibrox wage bill has grown significantly this month.

Five new signings, four in on loan, plus the return of Andy Halliday and Micky O’Halloran have only been balanced by Carlos Pena going out on loan with half of his wages being paid by his new Mexican club.

In November Sevco published their accounts which revealed that Dave King’s New Oasis Asset Limited firm would make up the £4m shortfall for the season.

That figure didn’t include Pedro Caixinha’s pay off or the January transfer funds with King lying low since appealing against the Court of Session decision to support the cold shoulder measures of the Takeover Appeal Board.
