Alex McLeish has given up on Sevco and is leading a consortium trying to buy Charlton Athletic.

According to a report in the Daily Record the former Rangers (IL) manager has teamed up with former Ibrox director Donald Muir to take over the struggling London side.

McLeish spent most of 2017 touting himself for any type of job at Ibrox following the sackings of Mark Warburton and Pedro Caixinha.

It’s five years now since McLeish last managed in the UK with the interest in Charlton likely to involve a Director of Football role rather than a return to the dug out.

Belgian owner Roland Duchatelet is deeply unpopular with Charlton fans who suspect that his main interest is in the stadium as a property development.

Muir was put onto the board of Rangers by Lloyds TSB in 2009 to reign in the excesses of Dave Murray.

Muir managed that and helped Lloyds TSB escape from the car crash when the club was sold to Craig Whyte for £1 two years after going on board.
