Brendan Rodgers is expecting Stuart Armstrong to be available in a fortnight’s time.

The midfielder underwent hernia surgery in Germany this week after spending a week training in Dubai.

New signing Marvin Compper will be out of action for a month but the Celtic boss is confident that Armstrong will soon be back in his plans.

He flew straight from Dubai to have his operation in Munich,” Rodgers told The Scotsman. “We got him in as quickly as we possibly could.

He had a specialist operation where the recovery time for a hernia is a lot less. Hopefully he’ll be back training in 10 days.”

The next 10 days covers matches against Brechin, Partick Thistle and Hibs with the visit of Hearts coming a few days later.

With Olivier Ntcham and Callum McGregor available Celtic are pretty well covered in midfield with Tom Rogic expected to be available at the weekend.

The injury to Compper is the biggest blow with the German expected to come in and form a new look defensive partnership alongside Kris Ajer.

Earlier today Celtic were linked with a €3m bid for Dusko Tosic of Turkish side Besiktas.
