Erik Sviatchenko has returned to Midtjylland and targeted a move to the English Championship.

The defender returned to Denmark on loan but has no desire to make it permanent despite interest from FC Copenhagen.

Two years ago Sviatchenko made the opposite journey when he signed for Ronny Deila but after a disastrous time of it in 2017 he is determined to make the most of his return to Midtjylland.

Discussing his options this morning The Sun reported the defender saying: “Copenhagen are a big club so I don’t want to rule anything out but the priority for me is to stay abroad.

I feel that I have a lot to contribute and it’s an exciting challenge to be abroad compared to the Super League.

I can see myself at a Championship club, for example. It’s a bold league where there are a lot of cool matches. It could also be a springboard for the Premier League.

I’m 26. I’m on my way to my best football age and I want to play somewhere where I can get responsibility.”

Sviatchenko has effectively been replace in the Celtic squad by Marvin Compper with the German likely to go straight into the side to face Brechin City on Saturday.

An injury away to Rosenborg at the start of August effectively ended Sviatchenko’s Celtic career.

The Dane recovered from injury in November but never played another match although he did pick up a Betfred Cup winners medal as an unused substitute in the 2-0 win over Motherwell.
