Sevco’s media management has taken a sinister twist with Kheredine Idessane back tracking on his tweet that there was no interest from China in Alfredo Morelos.
The closing days of the transfer window were dominated by the claim that Sevco were knocking back bids of £6m and £7m from a mystery Chinese club.
The word from China: source close to Beijing Renhe denies that the club made a multi-million pound bid for @RangersFC Alfredo Morelos. Says their foreign player quota is full, and that there’s a levy on foreign signings over $7 million.

An apology to @RangersFC : despite what I was told from China, there was indeed a multi-million euro bid, indeed bids, from Beijing Renhe for striker Alfredo Morelos, with varying options for how it would have been structured. This retracts, and corrects my previous tweet.

Graeme Murty was brought into the equation to use his office manager talk to big up the interest in Morelos while claiming that the club didn’t have to sell.
Having failed to source the funds to sign Jamie Murphy from Brighton it’s highly unlikely that Sevco could turn down an offer of £3m for any player.
BBC Scotland have been happy to run with the moonbeam that a club in China was keen on Morelos despite internet bampots uncovering a 100% tax on transfer fees, clubs having their full compliment of foreign players and the fact that there was no urgency since the Chinese transfer window remains open until the end of February.
By getting Idessane to withdraw his claim more focus will turn on the story with Sevco having to explain to Morelos why he takes home £13,000 a month rather than the £75,000/week he could have earned from an unknown club in an unknown universe.
