Sevco’s Chinese moonbeam over Alfredo Morelos has back-fired leaving the striker confused.

The self generated ‘interest’ in the striker from an unknown club bidding mega bucks was blown out the water when the striker’s agent was unable to find a club in China who were aware of the offer.

With no interest from the English Championship Sevco were reduced to attempting to drum up interest in Morelos from China despite the fact that the government have tightened up on the money flowing out the country to footballers and agents.

Yesterday the story included claims that Morelos would be picking up a weekly wage of £70,000 which is more than double his monthly Ibrox wage!

Last night Graeme Murty, who had been happy to talk up speculation about the striker, put on his best Office Manager mode to update Sky Sports with the latest about Morelos.

We have taken care of him,” the former Reading ace explained. “We just need to make sure the player is calm. He needs to know we can take him to the next level.

He needs to understand he is our player for the time being, that we can do everything for him to take him to the next level – to help him get that next big move.

“We can definitely improve him and I don’t think agents and media and all this kind of stuff helps him because we’ve got a confused young man who sees astronomical figures thrown at him.

“And it’s nothing to do with the player – he’s just confused and sees an opportunity of taking care of his family for a very long time.”

Tellingly Murts, questioning the validity of the ‘negotiations’ he was involved in added: “I’m not sure how much of it was substantially there for him.

“We love the kid – he’s a great young man. We won’t to push on to the next level and Alfredo can’t help us do that.

“He sees pound signs in front of him – but there’s no one who is unsellable. I’m under no pressure to sell him, though.”

With the Chinese transfer window over until the end of February Morelos could expose the moonbeam by pushing for a transfer this month- with no club in China aware of him other than the self generated publicity from Ibrox.

Murts hasn’t been able to raise a single transfer fee during the transfer window with Danny Wilson quitting Ibrox on a free transfer while Sevco are paying half of Carlos Pena’s wages with the midfielder on loan to Cruz Azul.
