Rae puts the boot into Murty

Ten days ago Graeme Murty was the Yorkshire born Guardiola but after two defeats in a week his reputation is in tatters.

It only took a couple of wins over Ayr United and Falkirk to convince the people that Sean Goss was indeed Michael Carrick with Greg Docherty his sidekick in the Patrick Viera/Roy Keane role.

Mr Murty was the mastermind behind the transformation and for good measure he had twice turned Brendan Rodgers in a bumbling fool.

Follow Follow, we will follow Murty.

Two lessons in reality have transformed the landscape with the former York City starlet in for a torrid time with even former managers putting the boot in.

In less than 18 months Jack Ross has turned Alex Rae’s St Mirren squad from relegation certainties into a sure thing for next season’s Premiership.

The former Millwall and Sunderland boss would love to ditch his media portfolio for a position back inside the game but despite Murty being in charge Rae wants to see moves made to get Stevie Clarke take over at Ibrox.

Gently leading towards his criticism Rae told The Sun: “If Rangers could win the Scottish Cup and finish runners-up then that would be a success but if they don’t, it’s all up in the air.

That’s why, unlike when Pedro Caixinha was sacked, they need to have a Plan B in place and be ready to push the button.

Steve Clarke has done a remarkable job with Killie — taking on and beating the Old Firm with a fraction of their resources. I’d be surprised if he wasn’t on their radar. In fact, if he isn’t, they’re not doing their jobs properly.

The important thing is that there needs to be a clear plan moving forward. This is a big time for the men running the club.

Season-ticket renewals will be coming up soon and people will be asked to make an investment without knowing what it is they’re getting for their money.”

Rae’s message is a familiar one with Clarke winning home and away with real football and management against the journey, plans and development programmes spouted by Murty.

Ignored in the speculation about the manager’s job at Ibrox is the disastrous conditions floating around the boardroom.

Like Paul le Guen and Pedro Caixinha it seems that there is little brotherly love for Murty outside the blue room of unsurpassed dignity.

Dave King has got less than a fortnight to come up with £11m before being removed from office, Close Brothers require £4m from the season ticket money while Goss, Jamie Murphy, Jason Cummings and Russell Martin return south of the border to their parent clubs.
