Tommy Wright has hit out at Steven Thompson for his old pals defence of Neil McCann.

The former Ibrox duo shared the good times of EBT funds under Alex McLeish, who picked up £1.7m in EBT payments, before moving into their media careers.

Video footage from Dens Park showed that McCann was bang out of order after his side’s 4-0 defeat but since last Saturday attempts have been made to drag St Johnstone into the issue.

Saints will defend goalkeeper Zander Clark when he appears in front of the SFA with Wright keen to pull up Thompson over his claim that Clark grabbed his former team-mate by the neck.

Speaking to Radio Scotland the St Johnstone manager said: “Steven Thompson, he must’ve skipped biology classes when he was at school because he’s making statements that Zander grabbed him by the neck which is factually not true.

“And also he’s proportioned a lot of blame to Manny Fowler. He’s got a job to do but if you’re going to do the old pals act, you’ve got to be a bit more balanced. To blame Manny, it’s obviously he’s getting that from Neil.

“Manny gets nothing but praise, even the officials are saying tonight they love working with him and he never causes a problem. He never caused Dundee a problem on Saturday. Typical old pals act. If you can’t be rational about things then you’re better off keeping quiet.”

McCann will be in the dug out today at Aberdeen trying to drag Dundee away from the relegation scrap.

The Dens Park side are currently three points ahead of second bottom Partick Thistle but face matches against Aberdeen, Hearts, Celtic and Sevco before the split.
