Chris Sutton has slammed the ‘baloney from Barry’ after his fellow Daily Record columnist claimed that Celtic were lucky to win at Ibrox.

The view of the former Clyde boss was widely ridiculed across social media which included the gem that Celtic were handed an advantage by being reduced to ten men.

With home advantage, twice taking the lead and having a one man advantage against a club playing their third choice goalkeeper most folk in football would say that Sevco blew it with Celtic thoroughly deserving of the points from those circumstances.

Ferguson took the opposite view and showed himself up when he explained that it was no tactical masterclass from Brendan Rodgers.

Responding in the Record Sutton wrote: “There was a bit of luck involved with Celtic’s win at Ibrox last weekend. Rangers were lucky Celtic let them make a go of it.

Fellow Record Sport columnist Barry Ferguson is entitled to his view that Rangers was unfortunate to lose Sunday’s Old Firm game.

Likewise I can disagree. There’s a huge difference between bad luck and poor play. Rangers had the opportunity to get something from the game because Celtic played poorly – and they didn’t because they were also poor when they needed to step up.

Graeme Murty’s side’s bravado backfired because they didn’t have a Scott Brown to get them over the line.

Luck didn’t come in to it. Celtic gifted-wrapped a couple of goals and Jozo Simunovic was stupidly send off.

How much more luck to Rangers need?”

Sutton warned Celtic fans not to read too much into the win at Ibrox, responding to the actions of a noisy neighbour is always enjoyable but the match did expose big questions about the hoops defence.

Kris Ajer, Marvin Compper and Jack Hendry have been added to the squad since the Champions League ended but getting the blend right at the back is the biggest issue ahead of the eight match qualification process for next season’s competition.
