Graeme Souness is peddling the favoired ‘Good for Scottish football’ line in anticipation of a Sevco win over Celtic on Sunday.

Alongside his good friend Dave Murray Souness tried to bury Celtic in the nineties thanks to their close friendship with Gavin Masterton of the Bank of Scotland.

No overdraft was too big for the Ibrox club as they laid the foundations for ten-in-a-row while Celtic and every other club in the land lived within their means.

Before the financial crash in 2008 Murray had turned to tax scams to remain competitive with Celtic while the SFA and SPL showed no interest in the good of the Scottish game.

Despite the handicap of paying full income tax and national insurance on time Celtic are firmly established as the dominant club in Scotland- a situation that troubles Souness and those that thought that the successes gained by robbing Her Majesty were the natural order of the Scottish game.

Asked about the importance of a win for Graeme Murty’s side Souness said: “A win for Rangers brings them a wee bit closer, that’s good for Scottish football and it’s certainly good for ‘Rangers’.

As an ex Rangers man I want that to happen but I come back to it, I think that it would be good for Scottish football, it’s not just a one horse race.”

The introduction of Financial Fair Play would be far better for Scottish football than a Sevco win on Sunday.

Full release by the SFA of the decision making process that awarded Rangers (IL) a licence to play in Europe in season 2011/12 would be good for Scottish football.

Had a FFP compliant club entered the Champions League qualifiers in season 2011/12 every team in the SPL may have been £250,000 better of by having a solvent club in the group phase of the Champions League.

During his time as manager of Blackburn Rovers Souness received an EBT, while managing Blackburn and Newcastle he signed Tugay, Barry Ferguson, Craig Moore and Jean-Alain Boomsong from the club run by his good friend Dave Murray.
