There is no doubting the support that Celtic attracts from Belfast with a permanent artwork in the city to record some of the hoops greatest moments.

Located in the Markets area of the city every day residents walk past the images of Jimmy Johnstone, Henrik Larsson and other legendary figures.

Towering above them all is the iconic image of Billy McNeill holding aloft the European Cup, similar to the statue at the bottom of the Celtic Way looking out over London Road.

The Glasgow variety has always attracted support from Belfast but the demise of their local Celtic in 1948 after a bloody battle with Linfield left a massive footballing gap in the city.

With Charlie Tully moving to Glasgow there was a local element in the Celtic side with others such as Anton Rogan and Lurgan’s Neil Lennon serving Celtic with distinction.

Current Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers was brought up in Carnlough, 50 miles north of Belfast with support for the hoops as strong as ever across Ireland with the north east a particular stronghold.
