Graeme Murty’s miserable week has continued with the Sevco boss admitting that his current club couldn’t afford to match the £7,500/week deal that SV Hamburg offered David Bates.

This morning the party line being pushed by the Daily Record was that the club didn’t feel that the defender was worth that sort of money.

With six years of losses propped up by soft loans Sevco are in a desperate financial position with Murty admitting as much when he was asked about Bates moving elsewhere.

Mark Warburton took Bates on loan from Raith Rovers in the summer of 2016 then converted that to a permanent deal.

Pedro Caixinha gave Bates his first team debut but under Murty his career has taken off.

Murts has been talking about a new deal for the defender since the turn of the year but with Bruno Alves, Eduardo Herrera and Carlos Pena eating up £400,000/month the club were unable to match the terms on offer to Bates from Hamburg.
