Brendan Rodgers has grown tired about being asked about the ‘closing gap’.
For media types unable to think outside of the ‘Old Firm bubble’ the fact that Celtic are only 13 points clear of Sevco seems to be a symbol of hope.
Behind that points tally there are some sobering thoughts.
Celtic have been savaged by injuries as well as having played 13 more matches than the tribute act.
????? BR: “Everyone talks about this gap. Celtic’s opponents are not just Rangers, you’ve got Aberdeen that have been second the last number of years, Hibs up and doing really well, Hearts getting stronger, Kilmarnock and Motherwell doing well. Every game is a challenge.”

????? BR: “It’s like when we played Bayern. It was very close the home game but they were clearly better than us. For us, it’s not about being concerned if they are closer or not. They’ll be looking at Hibs and Aberdeen in terms of their race. Our focus is very much on ourselves.”

At the end of this season the Ibrox side will be searching for another manager as Sean Goss, Russell Martin, Jason Cummings and Jamie Murphy return to their parent clubs.
With Celtic’s income three times larger than Sevco only a complete fool would put money on a title challenge from Ibrox next season.
Rather than asking Rodgers about the mythical gap some questions about Dave King’s share offer, David Bates’ departure and six years of heavy losses might go closer to getting a sustainable challenge from Ibrox.
In the meantime Aberdeen and Hibs are pushing to put Sevco into fourth place despite the handicap of operating within UEFA’s Financial Dair Play regulations.
