The Glasgow based publisher, The Herald has handed over free publicity to three fan groups calling for change at Ibrox.

Sunday’s Hampden hammering from Celtic seems to have been a watershed moment with supporters and media groups suddenly realising that three years after cheerleading through regime change the hoops remain miles clear of their tribute act.

The Herald has previously conjured up phrases such as the engine room subsidiary and bought fully into the survival myth in a way that would have horrified their previous business editor Alf Young.

Feeding comfort stories to the people has been the way of it since the tribute act was launched in 2012 but with seven in a row within touching distance for Celtic the Herald has turned to Vanguard Bears, Union Bears and Follow Rangers.

The extremist Vanguard Bears warn: “Unfortunately, the Gers support has been badly let down by the present board of directors.

“From poor managerial appointments, to playing the best part of a season with an under 20 coach in charge, to ignoring the Rangers hating media and political elite, the current board have been nothing short of negligent.”

No attempt was made in the report to get a response from Sevco or from the in-house fans group Club 1872.

NB Park’s of Hamilton, owned by deputy chairman Douglas Park of Sevco are one of the biggest advertisers in the print edition of The Herald.
