Brendan Rodgers wants Sevco to visit Celtic Park for the SPFL decider.

Early this week the post split fixtures will be announced with clubs having less than a fortnight to prepare for matches.

Aberdeen or Sevco would provide the perfect showcase for the Scottish season with most hoops fans wanting their city rivals to provide the opposition as Rodgers’ side chase the three points needed to clinch the title for the seventh season running.

The events of 1999 when a 6.05 Sunday kick off on a holiday weekend descended into chaos caused by an incredible refereeing performance by Hugh Dallas has dogged Scottish football for 20 years.

‘Never again’ was the pledge after that fixture rather than some simple precautions such as a noon kick off.

In 2012 Celtic could have clinched the title at Ibrox but in 2018 the message coming out is that the hoops can’t be allowed the opportunity to clinch the title with Sevco as opponents.

“I think it’s sad for Scottish football and it’s sad for society in Scotland,” Rodgers told the Daily Record after his side won 2-1 at Hamilton.

“In probably any other country in the world, they would look to play the game and showcase your football and country on telly – whether it was Real Madrid v Barcelona, Manchester United v Manchester City or AC Milan v Inter.

“But for some reason we can’t do that here which is a sad indictment of the world that it is here at times.

“But if it’s one they want to do, then they should do it and put it at an appropriate kick-off time and trust that people can behave themselves and play the game and show it as a great advert for Scottish football.

“Don’t bury your head in the sand and hope things don’t happen.”
