Sutton’s stinging Sevco criticism

Chris Sutton took a stroll down memory lane as he claimed that Sevco lay down to Celtic in yesterday’s title clincher.

Fifteen years ago the former Celtic striker landed himself in hot water when he made the same accusation about Dunfermline’s attitude when they went to Ibrox on the final day of the season.

On Saturday morning Sutton warned Steven Gerrard that he’d be taking on an impossible task if opted to take over from Graeme Murty at Sevco.

The evidence of 90 minutes at Celtic Park yesterday confirmed all of Sutton’s warnings- and more- with the manner of the pitiful display coming in for particular criticism.

Sutton told Daily Record readers: “It’s just as well I’ve hung up my boots as the last time I suggested a team lay down to hand over a title I was hit with a five-game ban.

Dunfermline took the hump back then but no one at Rangers can say a word after they rolled over at Parkhead yesterday.

Nobody from Ibrox spoke to the media after the hammering and that sums the club up right now. They do plenty of talking but none when it matters.

They should have fronted up after that shambles but, more importantly, they should have done their talking on the pitch.

It was always a question of whether Celtic would turn up. Yesterday we saw what happens when they do. It could have been double figures.”

Since the final whistle in yesterday’s 5-0 route there hasn’t been a single comment, article or angry statement from Sevco’s official outlets.
