Celtic’s midweek match against Dundee will carry extra significance in two key areas- goalkeeper and central defence.

With Scott Bain unavailable against his parent club a choice is certain in goals with reports that Craig Gordon is back in full training.

At 35 years of age no chances can be taken on Gordon’s ligament injury but at home to Dundee should be the sort of fixture to assess whether he is ready for the April 15 Scottish Cup semi-final with Sevco at Hampden.

If Dorus de Vries is chosen on Wednesday night it looks certain that Bain will be in place at Hampden for what looks like the biggest challenge to Celtic’s treble bid.

In front of the goalkeeper the mystery of central defence will continue to unravel.

Jozo Simunovic is available after suspension but could find himself down to fourth choice central defender.

At the start of this season Rodgers was happy to describe Dedryck Boyata as his first choice central defender but that comment now seems to be under serious threat.

Jack Hendry replaced the Belgian at half time in the 3-0 win over Ross County but there was no injury involved.

Before Christmas Rodgers mentioned getting a new contract sorted with Boyata but there have been no reports of progress on those discussions.

The last 18 months of a contract can often resemble a game of poker. In this case Celtic have been dealt additional cards in Hendry and Kris Ajer emerging with no great affinity from the fans towards the former Manchester City defender.

Hendry is cup-tied for the Hampden match but has barely put a foot wrong in his limited appearances since his January deadline day arrival.

At 6.30pm on Wednesday we’ll have a much clearer idea of how the Celtic side will shape up for Hampden as they attempt to get to within one match of a double treble.
