Davie Weir has warned prospective Sevco managers that they riska long slow death in the Ibrox hot seat.
The former Hearts and Everton defender was alongside Mark Warburton for 20 months as the arrival of the Ibrox side in the top flight switched from a dream to a nightmare.
Eventually the management team were informed that they had resigned.
The target of #goingfor55 became a stick to beat the club with as Warbo, a former city trader, left the club a broken man with his trusted side-kick Weir left out of a job.
Winning the Ramsdens Cup against Peterhead at Hampden wasn’t enough for the Sevco board with Weir fearing that there will be more Pedro Caixinha’s and Graeme Murty’s left on the scrapheap in the chase to catch Celtic.
“The onus is on the board to get it right,” Warbo’s number two told The Sun.
“It’s difficult, because there’s not a lot of highly- successful managers out there, and there’s a lot of clubs looking for good managers.
“There’s affordability too, what the salaries are and what the costs associated with that will be.
“If you’re at Rangers and you’ve not got a chance of being successful, as Walter Smith said, it’s a long, slow death.”
Weir’s only spell as a manager was at Sheffield United where he won one match in 13 before getting sacked.
