Chris Sutton has slammed Dave King for taking the legs away from Graeme Murty.

On Monday the South African based criminal sent out a plea for fans to buy season tickets promising a new manager who could bring instant success.

As someone who made his ‘fortune’ during the seventies and eighties in South Africa it’s understandable that diplomacy isn’t in his skill-set.

King’s rallying cry was followed up by David Bates announcing that he was off to Hamburg in the summer with Sevco, who claim to have turned down an £11m bid for Alfredo Morelos, unable to give the rising starlet £7,500 per week.

It wasn’t the build up to a semi-final that a caretaker manager was looking for but was typical of a club totally dysfunctional in every area.

Celtic are heading towards a double treble and Rangers need to stop them,” Sutton stated in the Daily Record. “It doesn’t get any bigger which is why it was a bizarre time for Dave King to come out and take the legs out from under his manager by talking about getting the right man for the job.

His comments haven’t done Graeme Murty any favours. For him to come out and say that kind of stuff at the start of the week only cranks the pressure up on the man in charge. Murty might end up in charge next season – but I doubt it.

If he doesn’t win at Hampden and stop the back-to-back trebles there’s no way I can see him surviving. But if he manages to get past Celtic, wins the Scottish Cup and finishes second, what then? Talk about an awkward situation.

King’s pandering to the punters and promising them a bright future. But this was the kind of statement you make the day after you lose the cup game, not the week before it.

I know he’s trying to flog season tickets but there’s no need to create more uncertainty around the manager.

It sums up Rangers this season. It’s been amateur hour at times and far too volatile. One minute they’re world beaters, the next the world is caving in. There’s been no middle ground.

I have sympathy for Murty as he’s been thrust into this situation. He’s made mistakes but he’s also steadied the ship somewhat and he’s managed to give Celtic a game in his three derby matches, which is more than can be said for the guy he replaced.”

King’s pitch for season ticket money made no reference to his contempt of the Court of Session or Takeover Appeal Board.

The South African based criminal isn’t expected to be at Hampden tomorrow, or back in the UK any time soon.
