MP Ross takes a Hampden tumble

Among many highlights from Hampden on Saturday was the sight of an assistant referee hitting the deck.

It happens maybe once or twice a season and usually from a fiercely hit ball or from the lino getting his feet mixed up and tripping over.

Neither was the case at Hampden.

As the ball trundled towards him Tory MP Douglas Ross seemed to collapse in fear.

He showed none of the strength that he demonstrated at Ibrox when he roared ‘red card, red card’ to Willie Collum as he got excited by Jozo Simunovic’s elbow.

Ross seemed to miss a number of red card incidents on Saturday as Motherwell players took it in turn to try and end the career of Kieran Tierney.

A stream of late challenges were aimed at the Celtic defender with referee Kevin Clancy reluctant to hand out appropriate punishments.

Having been forced to drop his UEFA commitments in order to represent his constituents at Westminster, Ross has missed out on the chance to officiate at the World Cup Finals in Russia.
