Jimmy Nicholl believes that leading Sevco to second place would be a massive achievement.

At every home match at Ibrox the fans are reminded that they are ‘Simply The Best’ by Tina Turner while chairman Dave King ploughs in millions chasing the dream of sending Celtic into liquidation.

This term Ibrox season ticket holders have had to endure seven home defeats with the campaign being signed off with a 9-0 aggregate defeat against Celtic in a cup semi-final and providing the support act in a title clincher.

King has promised instant success under new manager Steven Gerrard but as he prepares to take a wounded side missing Alfredo Morelos, Young McCrorie and Andy Halliday to Hibs hoping to leapfrog Celtic Nicholl has a worrying message for those with a supremacist mentality.

“People will turn round and say, ‘they are second, what sort of achievement is that’ but, I’ll tell you it’s a massive achievement,” the latest Ibrox caretaker told STV.

“A lot of credit goes to Graeme Murty for the position he got them into.

“I hate saying it’s a massive achievement but it is because it is difficult as Celtic are away up there at this moment of time.

“So you have to finish best of the rest and it would hurt if it didn’t happen.

Sevco go into their final match of the season a point behind Aberdeen hoping for a Celtic win against Derek McInnes’ side while taking at least a point from Hibs.

Real Madrid don’t list second place finishes or Petrofac Cup triumphs among their honours.
