Carlos Pena has taken moves to protect his salary by checking into a Rehab Centre in Mexico.

Last summer the playmaker was the marquee signing brought to take the title from Celtic but after flopping spectacularly he was sent on loan to Mexican side Cruz Azul in January.

A string of booze related problems- including going to an off-sales in kit after training and urinating in a hotel fountain- proved too much for Pedro Caixinha who cancelled the loan deal with Sevco.

While the hoards screamed for Pena to have his £30,000/week contract cancelled Employment Law is less basic than that with an employer having a duty of care to his work force. Even at Ibrox.

Well aware that the remaining two years of his deal could be under threat Pena has checked in for rehab and looks certain to miss out on the start of the Gerrard revolution.

ESPN sports correspondent Elizabeth Patino explained:

The Gerrard revolution officially starts on Friday without any new signings brought in by the former Liverpool youth coach.
