Jamie Redknapp has revealed that Sevco was the last club he expected to see Steven Gerrard managing.
The former Liverpool midfielder has steered well clear of management since retiring despite the offers that would come his way thanks to his dad, Harry’s, connections.
Gerrard was enjoying the lifestyle of a combined coaching and media career but from June 1 it’ll be his responsibility to stop Celtic winning eight-in-a-row.
Going head to head with Brendan Rodgers would be a demanding task for any manager but in his first job and with no sign of a worthwhile war-chest the odds are stacked against Gerrard.

“If you looked at one club you thought Gerrard wouldn’t be manager of, it would probably be Rangers,” Redknapp told Sky Sports.
“No disrespect, they are a sleeping giant, but they’ve been asleep for a long time now.
“Stevie obviously feels he can turn it around and fair play to him. He’s never shirked a challenge in his life. This will probably be the biggest one he’s ever had.
“Going into management, your first step, normally you talk about going into a stable club that has money at your disposal, lots of good players.
“You don’t really know if they’ve got either, look at the players they have, they need refreshing.
“Maybe Steven knows something we don’t about them getting money in to buy some talent.
“If they don’t buy some new players I just can’t see how it is going to be a success. It will be very hard with the players he’s got at the moment.”
Despite the excitement of Friday’s announcement Gerrard won’t take charge at Ibrox until June 1 with Liverpool and BT Sport commitments taking priority.
On Monday Dave King is staging a media conference where it’s expected that funding the Gerrard revolution is likely to be discussed.
Until the South African based criminal complies with the ruling of the Takeover Appeal Board and Court of Session there will be no fresh inverstment or share issue at Ibrox.
