Brendan Rodgers has revealed that the fear of failure drives him on.

Last summer the Irishman delivered an unbeaten treble in his first season in charge to the delight of hoops fans worldwide.

It was a summer to remember for the fans but for the man that masterminded the triumph there was only THREE days of rest.

With Champions League income hugely important to his plans less than a week passed after the Scottish Cup Final before Rodgers had to turn his attention to ensuring success for the following season.

Look, the bad times are just around the corner,” he told the Evening Times. “So, no, I can’t really sit back and enjoy this. I had this last season, you know. We won the treble against Aberdeen and then three days into my break, I had this fear of complacency. It’s a fear I always have.

We produced a document on the traps we must not fall into to ensure we succeed over the longer term. So, you can’t enjoy it too much.

When you are gone, when you are out of it, you can look back and all the nice moments can become clearer for you but not right now.”

Rodgers faces an even tougher task this summer with Celtic facing four qualifying rounds if they are to reach the group phase of the Champions League.

Eight successive midweeks will be taken up with qualifiers as Rodgers attempts to take Celtic into the group phase for the third season running.

Celtic take on Motherwell in the Scottish Cup Final on May 19 looking to clinch the treble for the second season running.
