UEFA have returned Sevco’s licence application to the SFA with a number of questions.

According to Phil MacGiollabhain UEFA have started to take an interest in the financial gymnastics at Ibrox that is being pushed through by the authorities at Hampden.

Sevco appear to have kept the SFA satisfied about their debt levels with the promise of a ‘rights issue’ underwritten by a man that doesn’t have a UK bank account.

On it’s own that is a breach of UEFA’s licence conditions with Panathinaikos and Sion both being banned for breaches of licence conditions.

Sevco appeared to fail a number of issues for the current season but no further action was taken after they crashed out at the first qualifying round against Progres Niederkorn.

Rather than take heed of that warning it seems that the SFA and Sevco believed that they could participate in the Europa League under similar if not worse financial conditions.

UEFA impose the conditions to ensure some sort of level playing field to prevent clubs over-stretching in the hope of repaying losses from prize money paid out for playing in UEFA competitions.

On Monday Dave King told selected journalists that Sevco was deliberately run at a loss and would do so until they reached the group phase of the Champions League.

The current licence issue and the eight month long enquiry from the Compliance Officer into the 2011 licence will be among the first issues for new SFA Chief Executive Ian Maxwell to deal with when he takes up his job on May 21.

If Sevco’s are unable to get their application in order the final UEFA place will go to Kilmarnock or Motherwell (if they win the Scottish Cup).
