In their attempt to deflect away from the shambles that is Sevco many Ibrox fans are seeking relevance by predicting a Celtic conspiracy on Sunday!

Rather than hoping that their third manager of the season can outwit Neil Lennon and get a win at Easter Road more attention seems to be on Celtic about to ‘lie down’ to Aberdeen, or to put it another way, to do a Dunfermline.

At kick off time on Sunday Aberdeen will be one point clear of the tribute act sitting in second place, finishing second is rarely something that clubs list among their honours. It’s a bit like the Petrofac Cup- you don’t want reminded of playing in that sort of tournament.

Unless Sevco can pick up at least a point against Hibs the events at Celtic Park will have no bearing on their final league position.

Celtic could un-lie down, beat Aberdeen 4-0 or 5-0 and Derek McInnes’ side will still finish above the tribute act.

As if the usual match-day squad doesn’t present Jimmy Nicholl with enough problems he has to face Hibs without the suspended trio of Young McCrorie, Alfredo Morelos and Andy Halliday.

Those three players are subject to suspensions from the SFA, Kenny Miller and Lee Wallace are still suspended by their company.

After 38 matches, with all clubs paying HMRC the correct amount of tax the league table tells it’s own story only distorted by honest mistakes carried out by referees who are bomb proof.

Since Aberdeen aren’t capable of doing themselves a favour they won’t get any from Celtic on Sunday.

The Dons have had four chances to stick Sevco into third place, they have taken one point and lost 10.

Celtic are capable of putting in another below par performance on Sunday, in-between three skelpings of the tribute act they’ve managed to drop points to Dundee, Motherwell, Hibs and Kilmarnock.

By 3pm on Sunday the final SPFL table will be published, the final places known.

Sevco and Aberdeen will probably play in the Europa League qualifiers, it will be a shock if either reaches the play-off stage- the group phase would require a miracle.

Only Jimmy Nicholl would describe finishing second as a massive achievement- right up there with the Petrofac Cup.
