Steven Gerrard has put getting his coaching certificates ahead of kick starting his Ibrox revolution.

The former Liverpool youth coach dodged his first month of duty at Ibrox to go on holiday, continue work as a Liverpool ambassador then attend the Champions League Final in Kiev before playing in Dirk Kuyt’s testimonial match.

Sevco fans had been whipped into a frenzy for June 1 and the arrival of this season’s messiah with Barry Ferguson liking it to a kid counting down to Christmas Day.

On Thursday night (Christmas Eve for Barry) Gerrard announced on the Sevco website that he would be away from Murray Park for an unspecified time but working closely with Director of Football Mark Allen.

Later on Thursday it emerged that he had been watching starlets from Canada and Japan in action at the Toulon Tournament.

Now it has been revealed that Gerrard is still working on getting his FA Pro Licence at the Toulon Tournament rather than star spotting for his revolution.

Disguising the reasons for his Ibrox absence Gerrard told The Sun: “There’s a level of footballer here which of course would interest me.

I’m on the Pro- Licence course, which is the last course in terms of being qualified.

While here I want to kill two birds with one stone. I want to see what talent is there, if there’s anyone who interests me.

I’ve got tasks to do within the course but I also have a wandering eye on what’s going on with certain individuals.”

Any competent club would already have profiles of all of the players at the Toulon Tournament- probably from u-17 upwards including their contract positions and which agencies represent them.

While Celtic and other will naturally be scouting at the Toulon Tournament Brendan Rodgers’ staff will already be well aware of the strengths of the players in action.

Should any of the Japan or Canada players impress Gerrard it’s unlikely that they would get a work permit to play in Scotland.

The Toulon tournament runs until June 9.

Sevco have still to deliver on any of Gerrard’s signing targets.
