Boyata in the spotlight

Dedryck Boyata will be ‘on the radar’ of every decent sized club in Europe tomorrow when Belgium open their World Cup campaign against Panama.

With a year left on his hoops contract his agent will have sent out an alert with the World Cup Finals the biggest showcase in the game.

Celtic will also be well aware of any player in Russia who is out of contract next summer which may include a replacement for Boyata.

In an ideal world the 27-year-old would have already signed up to a new Celtic contract but after being a late starter in the game his next contract is critical.

Celtic can offer him everything- except the wages that his Belgian team-mates are picking up.

A progressive manager, the real prospect of Champions League football and playing in front of 60,000 fans every second week for prizes.

Unfortunately the top Celtic earners don’t pick up in a month what Vincent Kompany, Kevin De Bruyne and Eden Hazard take home every week.

Boyata’s dilemma will be whether he opts for a top contract at Celtic and enjoys the trimmings or decides to pick up an extra couple of million elsewhere over the next couple of years.

Before he arrived at Celtic three years ago Boyata had played started 23 league matches, under Ronny Deila and Brendan Rodgers he has more than trebled that figure and started 17 European matches.

There are probably other offers on the table for Boyata, only he will know if he’ll be seen again in a Celtic shirt.
