After a week long campaign Club 1872 have been able to add £40,000 to Steven Gerrard’s transfer warchest.

The Ibrox fan group has been riddled with in-fighting over the last two years with different factions angling for a blazer but ending up with little more than tea and biscuits or an email from Sevco supremo Stewart Robertson.

Last week Club 1872 announced that they had funds of £960,000 split between shares and projects and ordered a members poll to dedicate all of their funds into a new share issue while asking for one off donations.

Today they announced:

Club 1872 is delighted to announce that our investment in the upcoming RIFC share issue will be £1m. This represents another fantastic achievement for the thousands of Rangers supporters who contributed to this effort.

Despite having 47,000 season ticket holders and a worldwide support only 7,500 fans are members of Club 1872. The equivalent Hearts fan group, who actually saved their club from liquidation, The Foundation of Hearts, has 8,000 subscribers and recently announced a £3m contribution to the Tynecastle Redevelopment Fund.

With £5m required to complete the transfers of Conor Goldston and Nikola Katic the £1m donation from Club 1872 will quickly be accounted for.

Dave King has still to comply with the ruling from the Takeover Appeal Panel relating to his concert party take over in 2015 with no details released about the price of the shares that Club 1872 are snapping up.
