Lee Wallace has been stripped off the Sevco captaincy!

In the summer of 2015 the former Hearts defender was handed the armband of dignity following Lee McCulloch’s departure and led the tribute act to Petrofac Cup glory in his first season.

Things turned sour for Waldo last term with a sore knee ending his campaign in September before he picked up a suspension and a fine of four weeks wages following a dressing room incident at the 4-0 Scottish Cup semi-final defeat from Celtic.

On Friday Steven Gerrard talked about Wallace in glowing terms but as he recovers from injury at Murray Park the hunt is on for a new captain.

Asked about the armband with the big letter C on it the Sevco boss told The Sun: “When I am ready, when I see that standout guy who can be the captain of this club. I see it as a very important role.

All over the park you need leadership and you need leadership off the park as well.

Having chats with the staff, in all the departments, I have told them I want them all to be leaders and all understand why we are here. We are here for this club and to get the best out of these players.

We are a support network for these players and we need to make sure they get the right service in all departments.

Wallace has appealed against his four week fine to the SPFL with no details yet to emerge of what happened in the Hampden dressing room.

Kenny Miller has been fined two weeks wages for his role but has now left the club, Waldo has 12 months left on his current deal. Miller is believed to be holding talks about a 12 month playing contract with St Mirren.
