King’s strange silence

Sevco have still to communicate with the SFA regarding the two Notice of Complaints served on them relating to the 2011 UEFA licence given to the old club.

On June 26 the Ibrox club will have their say against the welter of information that they applied for a UEFA licence without declaring an overdue tax demand for £2.8m from HMRC.

Many observers would suggest that the SFA process is in the dock as much as the old club but on this occasion it is Dave King that has questions to answer.

Current director Andrew Dickson should be a useful witness, he ensured that the side contracts used to entice players and managers was kept away from the SFA as well as dealing with issues such as applying to play in European competition.

King has been trying to switch the spotlight onto the recently departed non-executive director Gary Hughes with no defence yet offered against the Notice of Complaint issued while he was a director of the old club.

“The notice of complaint is ongoing and going through the judicial process with the compliance officer,” Ian Maxwell, the new chief executive of the SFA told STV.

“The statements have been played out in the press. We’ve not had much, if any, official communication from Rangers at all. It’s difficult for us to comment until such times as we do.

“As I stand here right now, I’m not aware of us having been asked officially, though that may have come in this morning.”

A number of Rangers (IL) directors and officials gave evidence last year during the Craig Whyte trial acknowledging that the £2.8m ‘wee tax bill’ was overdue when the licence application was made.
