John McGinn has spoken out about transfer speculation as he enters the final year of his Hibs contract.

Celtic have been linked with a move for the 23-year-old but it’s unlikely that McGinn is a priority signing for Brendan Rodgers.

The former St Mirren man is the most talented player in Scotland outside of Celtic with that accolade earning Jonny Hayes a move last summer.

Last year Ipswich Town and Nottingham Forest made enquires about McGinn with a better quality of side expected to be interested over the coming weeks.

Speaking about his future he told the Daily Record: “I wake up each morning to different speculation but that’s something I can’t control. Being over here with Scotland has allowed me to focus on training and the matches and it has been a big help.

The speculation is there but when I wake up over here, on the back of the time difference, it has died down again so it’s good to get away from it.

I took a holiday before coming here and this trip has taken my mind off everything else that’s being said about me. I still have a year to go at Hibs and I love it there. It will need to take something really special to come along. The speculation is going to come, I just have to deal with it because it is all part of football.

The speculation is only there because I have been playing well. As a team we have been different class but you must be doing something right when you see your name linked with all these clubs.”

Hibs are about to lose Dylan McGeouch for free and are anxious to avoid a repeat with McGinn.

Alan Stubbs signed the midfielder from St Mirren in 2015 for a fee believed to be around £300,000 with the Paisley side due a third of any transfer profit.

Last season McGinn only scored five times in the SPFL Premiership but two of those goals were at Celtic Park and one at Ibrox.
