Alex McLeish has no regrets about Scotland’s end of season trip to Peru and Mexico that has kleft him with a 25% success rate.
The former Rangers (IL) boss was third choice to replace Gordon Strachan and inherited the mid summer trip arranged by Stewart Regan.
Brendan Rodgers sent his key players off on holiday with McLeish’s leftovers managing just two shots on goal over 180 minutes as Peru and Mexico enjoyed a training exercise ahead of more important action in Russia.
“We could have taken something out of both games,” the Scotland boss told The Sun.
“But in saying that I am not worried about myself having a great game record, it’s about getting this county to a major finals.
“The players were very professional and they played a couple of good games.
“Guys who may not have been on the radar to play for the national team, every one of them have enhanced their reputation, I feel.”
Scott Bain, Jack Hendry, Ryan Christie and Lewis Morgan all played in the tour matches in-between picking up training tips from McLeish and James McFadden.
Celtic’s main players return for pre-season training a week on Friday as they prepare for the qualifying rounds of the Champions League.
The hoops have to get through four rounds- played over eight successive midweeks- if they are to make ity through to the group stage.
