The SFA won’t investigate any connection between Gary Hughes and the two Notice of Complaints issued to Sevco relating to the 2011 UEFA licence awarded to Rangers (IL).

On Tuesday, 24 hours ahead of the AGM of the SFA, Dave King demanded to know if former non-executive director Hughes had been involved in the Notice of Complaints.

Anyone with a passing knowledge of the game or understanding of the English language would know the limited role that a non-executive has while current Ibrox directors Andrew Dickson and Alastair Johnston were both hands on with the tax scams and failure to register player payments.

No, there is no need,” new SFA chief executive Ian Maxwell told the Daily Record about King’s request for a Hughes enquiry.

The way the Notice of Complaint works is that the board instruct the compliance officer to review an incident and the compliance officer is then completely independent from that point and decides whether there is a case to answer or not.

Obviously, he decided, yes, there was a case to answer and that is now going through the process.

I have seen nothing other than total independence from both the independents on the board. That’s not to say the other board members aren’t but obviously because that is in their title.”

During the Craig Whyte trial last summer a number of former Rangers (IL) officials are directors, including Dave Murray, discussed the £2.8m overdue tax demand that the former billionaire inherited when he bought the club for £1 in May 2011.

Dickson was responsible for the UEFA licence, completing the paperwork and liaising with the SFA over the matter with the overdue tax bill in the public domain.

In August 2011 Sheriff Officers visited Ibrox on behalf of HMRC to demand payment of the overdue tax bill which related to the illegal payments made to Tore Andre Flo and Ronald de Boer.
