Lustig’s joy despite yellow card

There was joy and despair for Mikael Lustig as Sweden beat Switzerland to reach the last eight of the World Cup.

A 66th minute goal from Emil Forsberg separated the two teams but a yellow card means that the Celtic defender will miss the last eight clash against Colombia or England.

The victory continues the Swedes remarkable run in the tournament with Holland, Italy and Germany already accounted for.

There was little between the two teams, both sides had a couple of decent chances but failed to show any composure in front of goal.

Forsberg’s goal was typical of the match with the Swede’s fashioning out a good opportunity but the midfielder’s shot required a deflection before hitting the net.

Sweden held on without any real scares and almost added to their lead deep in stoppage time but after being awarded a penalty that decision was reduced to a free kick and red card for Michael Lang following a VAR review.

Lustig will now sit out Saturday’s quarter-final and hope that there is a semi-final tie to look forward to.
