Patrick Roberts has kicked off a 10 day social media frenzy.
The winger is clearly surplus to requirements at Manchester City but so far no EPL club has come in with an acceptable offer for the England youth internationalist, asked about a third spell at Celtic he refused to dismiss the option.
On August 9 the transfer window will close in England but remain wide open elsewhere.
Last summer Celtic’s transfer business seemed to be dominated by thoughts of Roberts with every comment or movement from the player or his brother Adam open to interpretation.
A week ago Celtic were linked with a move for Daniel Arzani but the young Australian has still to complete his transfer from Melbourne City to the Etihad.
It’s highly unlikely that Roberts and Arzani will both be lining up at Celtic with the hoops already able to call upon James Forrest, Scott Sinclair, Mikey Johnston, Jonny Hayes and Lewis Morgan competing for the wide places.
If Roberts isn’t on the move before next Friday his options become very limited, from Celtic’s point of view another loan would be less than ideal but as the end of the transfer window draws closer nothing can be ruled out.
