Marvin Compper won’t be in the Celtic squad to face Alashkert on Tuesday.
The defender was signed in January from RB Leipzig to bring experience to the hoops back line but only made one appearance- against Morton in the Scottish Cup- last season.
Compper played a full part in Celtic’s pre-season trip to Austria but was missing, along with Leigh Griffiths, from the squad that beat Shamrock Rovers 7-0.
Rather than take the 33-year-old to Armenia Compper will stay behind in Glasgow with Brendan Rodgers ready to pair Jozo Simunovic and Kris Ajer together in central defence against Alashkert.
That pairing got an hour together against Shamrock Rovers and will be given the chance to forge a partnership until the return of Dedryck Boyata.
With Belgium involved in the World Cup for another week Celtic won’t see Boyata until the domestic season is underway with Jack Hendry the other option to play in central defence.
