Everton look like throwing a spanner into the Kieran Tierney ‘done deal’ by signing Ramy Bensebaini from Rennes.
According to a report in the Daily Star the 23-year-old central defender or left-back is on his way to Goodison for a transfer fee of €15m.
The Algerian has a very similar profile to Tierney with three years experience in the French top flight with Montpellier and Rennes.
Over the last 24 hours the Tierney story seems to have moved on dramatically although it is far from certain that he will be moving to Everton.
What does seem likely is that he won’t be a Celtic player when the transfer window closes.
Celtic fans are being presented with two versions of the story-none of which are pleasant.
Either the player and his advisers are engineering a move or the Celtic board wish to cash in on an asset that could realise a profit close to one third of the club’s turnover in a Champions League season.
Celtic are unlikely to make any comment with Brendan Rodgers not scheduled to have a media conference until Monday when he will preview the Champions League qualifier away to Alashkert.
