Ferguson can’t hold back

Barry Ferguson is struggling to contain his excitement for the Gerrard Revolution.

Signings may have dried up over the last fortnight- just like the transfer war-chest provided by Dave King- but trivia like that won’t derail the anticipation for the season ahead.

Only three transfer fees have been paid- for Connor Goldson, Jamie Murphy and Nikola Katic- but that’s been enough to get the gullible in a lather for the season ahead.

Gerrard has been very selective with his media time, there was no preview of tonight’s glamour friendly with Bury, but it has only taken a few video clips from training to convince supporters that this will be their season.

Most professionals would hold back on judgement until they had watched a couple of matches but the carefully managed media campaign has convinced Ferguson that the good times are about to roll.

I don’t want to get ahead of myself and say that Gerrard will transform Rangers overnight. I’m not suggesting either that they will win the title under him next season,” the former Clyde boss told the Daily Record before contradicting himself.

But what I am convinced about is he won’t make the same mistakes as Caixinha. This guy is a different kettle of fish – a true professional who has spent his entire career operating at the highest levels for a massive club.

Where Caixinha had no idea how to meet the demands of a club like Rangers, Gerrard has been doing it all his career.

Yes, it remains to be seen what he’s like as a manager, what style his team plays and if he’s able to affect games from the sidelines by making the right calls at the right time.

But what I do know is he ?understands football inside out and he has a wealth of experience standing next to him in the shape of Gary McAllister who has worked as a manager himself. If Gerrard feels he needs to lean on anyone for advice at any given moment then he’s got the ideal man in his dugout.

Like I say, let’s not get carried way just yet but this summer – for the first time in a very long time – it does feel as if my old club is back in the hands of professionals.”

Tickets are still available for tonight’s match, Gerrard’s first ever as a real manager.
