Brendan Rodgers has admitted that he would have liked to have a have added more players to his squad.

Against Standard Liege the hoops boss was able to take a look at 22 players while also having injured duo Lewis Morgan and Craig Gordon to call on as well as his World Cup contingent.

Over the summer Erik Sviatchenko,Stuart Armstrong and Patrick Roberts departed with most fans expecting to see new faces in defence.

The Celtic boss has already stated that he is happy with his size and quality of his squad but is looking to bring in players ready to go straight into his first team.

I’d always have liked to have more in by now but the most important thing was ensuring we kept the players we wanted to stay,” Rodgers told the Evening Times. “The likes of Tom Rogic and these guys.

Absolutely for sure we need to strengthen, and that will come. It’s only in certain specific areas, it’s not a total overhaul. We’ve been building, developing and growing for the last few years and this will hopefully be another year to do that.

If we can bring in another number of players that will improve our squad, that will be nice.”

Rodgers has admitted to making two bids for John McGinn but Hibs seem adamant that they can get a higher fee for the midfielder.

A transfer fee of £2m seems a fair rate for the player who has a year to run on his contract with increasing suggestions that Celtic won’t make a third bid, preferring to sit back and sign the player on a pre-contract agreement in January.
