Fernando Torres has snubbed an emotional reunion with Steven Gerrard to sign for Sagan Tosu of Japan.
The Spanish striker enjoyed the best days of his career at Anfield scoring 81 goals in 142 appearances but wasn’t interested in joining Sevco.
As soon as Gerrard was appointed as Sevco boss he was linked with a move for Torres but despite being a free agent the 34-year-old proved to be out of budget for the tribute act.
Sevco are expecting to get the loan deals for Umar Sadiq and Lassana Coulibaly rubber stamped by the SFA despite both players unable to get a regular game at club level last season.
If those deals are completed it will take to nine the number of players brought in by Gerrard with just three involving a transfer fee.
With Torres joining Martin Skrtel in rejecting a move to work with Gerrard it appears that the contact book of Director of Football Mark Allen is proving more useful than that of the former Liverpool u-18 coach.
