Davie Hay has appealed for Brendan Rodgers and Peter Lawwell to resolve their differences.

The last ten days has put the relationship between manager and chief executive in the spotlight with a lack of transfer activity contributing to Celtic’s Champions League exit in Greece.

Apart from the return of Emilio Izaguirre Celtic haven’t made a signing since June 15 when Odsonne Edouard was snapped up.

Despite Mikael Lustig, Cristian Gamboa and Dedryck Boyata being involved at the World Cup no new defenders were brought in with the suspension of Kris Ajer forcing Jack Hendry and Jozo Simunovic together in Athens.

Rodgers went public with his transfer frustrations on the eve of the first leg tie against AEK with Hay, a club ambassador, hoping that the rift at the top of the club can be fixed.

He told the Evening Times: “That goes for the problems on the pitch and off of it too, and there is little doubt in my mind that the friction behind the scenes at Celtic seeped its way onto the field on Tuesday night.

There have been outbursts from the manager over the lack of support from the board in the transfer market, and what I would say is the number one priority in terms of the well-being of Celtic is that the fallout between the manager and Peter Lawwell is resolved quickly. There has to be a united front from Celtic now above all else.

Rodgers is expected to preview the Betfred Cup tie with Partick Thistle although Chris Davies may step in to perform media duties today.
