Brendan Rodgers believes that the transfer window will truly open up next Friday.

For the first time the English transfer window closes before the start of the EPL season begins taking out the biggest spenders in the market.

Already this summer English clubs have spent £1bn on transfer fees with that figure doubled when wages, signing on fees and agent payments are added in.

Most fans expect players at English clubs to become available to move but there is another factor that will benefit Celtic.

Next Friday morning clubs will no longer be able to claim English interest in their players forcing a re-evaluation in transfer fees with the ‘Salford City factor’ removed.

“I think it’s a big hindrance for the Premier League but it can maybe benefit us in a different way,” Rodgers told the Daily Record about the transfer window.

“I think they are hamstrung in terms of what they can do. Once their window closes, the squads are settled and there’s maybe room for other players to be brought in.

“I think it’s something that will change next year. There has to be uniformity around Europe or go back to the way it was.

“The difficulty is that leagues are starting at different times.

“But the Premier League had the right idea and concept with players sitting beside others in a changing room who want to go.

“At the same time it can make it more difficult. We’ll see.

With Patrick Roberts still at Manchester City there is bound to be speculation over a return to Celtic.

The winger was expected to move to Leicester City as part of the Riyad Mahrez deal but remained at the Etihad with little prospect of playing time.
