Moussa Dembele looks likely to miss the rest of Celtic’s Champions League qualifying campaign.

The striker scored twice at home to Alashkert in the first round but went off injured midway through the second half with what was reported to be a tight hamstring.

Before the second round tie against Rosenborg Brendan Rodgers explained that the striker would be missing for two or three weeks.

Yesterday, ten days on from that update, Rodgers was less upbeat with the chances being that the striker will miss the remaining qualifiers and possibly the first Glasgow derby match of the season on September 2 which is followed by an international break.

The Sun reports Rodgers saying: “The medical guys are telling me it is probably going to be another two to three weeks, a bit longer than we had anticipated. It’s a blow, but that is the way it is.”

Last season Dembele came on as a substitute in the first round qualifier against Linfield then missed the rest of the qualifiers.

Leigh Griffiths scored home and away in the play-off round against Astana and is expected to make his first competitive appearance of the season in the SPFL opener against Livingston.
